August Derleth was born on February 24, 1909. His father was William Julius Derleth and his mother was Rose Louise Volk. Derleth was an American writer. He is well known both for his historical and detective fictions. Derleth spent most of his childhood days in Sauk City, Wisconsin. As he was getting educated in University of Wisconsin-Madison, Derleth kept on writing. He received his B.A. degree in 1950. At this time he was employed as the editor of the Mystic Magazine. Derleth's first work got published in the Weird Tales magazine when he was just 16 years of age.
