The rise of Maxtor Corporation was phenomenal & its fall was quite dramatic. Established in the year 1982, the company became the third largest hard disc manufacturer in the world by December 2005. However its rival Seagate Technology took over Maxtor in 2006.

Conner Peripherals was a company involved in the manufacturing of hard drives for personal computers. It was found by Seagate Technology in 1986. Finis Conner was its co-founder. This company was a merger between a company of Finis & another started by John Squires & Terry Johnson called the Miniscibe. Miniscribe was involved in working on a new type of small hard disk that put the capacity of a 5 25 inch drive into the much smaller 3 5 inch format. Compaq being a major customer was also a financer for many years
