Andrew Taylor was born in Warrnambool, Victoria in the year 1940. He completed his education from the University of Melbourne, and later on went to Adelaide in 1970. He is among the chief Australian poets of the 1970s and came to be regarded as a major celebrity in Australian poetry.

In the early stage of his childhood, he composed a memorable poem under the title of “Cebbaroglu Mehemmed” and this poem helped him to grab second place in the CHP Poetry Competition. This incident predicted the arrival of a literary person in the literary scene of Turkey.
