Playwright Sophocles Aeschylus Euripides Shakespeare Ben Jonson
A playwright, also known as a dramatist, refers to a person who writes dramatic literature or a drama. These writing works may be written in a specific way so that it could be performed by actors and actresses or they may either be closet dramas or literary works written using specified dramatic forms but at the same time not meant for performance. The origin of the word Wright can be explained as it is an archaic English term for a craftsman or builder. As an example we can take either take a wheelwright or even a Cartwright. Hence the prefix and the suffix combine to indicate someone who crafts plays. It should be noted that the term is not a variant spelling of playwrite.
