Rhode Island Providence Plantations Ocean State In New England Region
First of the thirteen original American colonies which declared independence from British rule, Rhode Island has now officially been named the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. It is a state in the New England region of the USA. A large part of the state of Rhode Island is situated in the North American mainland though the name signifies otherwise. Because of the fact that all the part of the state is less than a 30-minute drive from the water's edge and one-tenth of its landed area is covered by salt water, the state has officially adopted the nickname of the Ocean State. But, for a long time, Rhode Island is known under the nickname of Little Rhody.
