Cushings Disease Pituitary Tumors
Cushings syndrome is an endocrine disorder which occurs due to high levels of hormone, cortisol in the blood from a variety of causes. One of the causes for this is primary pituitary adenoma which causes Cushings disease. Pituitary adenomas are tumors that occur in the pituitary gland inside the human brain. These tumors account for about 10% of the intracranial neoplasms(over production of cells, i.e. tumor which are hard to control). These tumors often remain undiagnosed and only 6 to 24 percent of adults are detected with small pituitary tumors on autopsy.

Acromegaly, in Greek, means enlargement (megalos meaning large) of the extremities ( akros meaning extreme). This medical condition occurs when a benign tumor called a pituitary adenoma (in the pituitary gland), derived from cells called somatotrophs, produces and secretes excess growth hormone (hGH). It usually affects middle-aged people. Because of its slow progression and hard to detect symptoms, usually it remains undetected during the early stages of the disease.
