In fact the dinner laid in the king's palace, better known as banquet was a means to show off his wealth and how noble he was. Most of the people in Medieval England were peasants living in villages who had to prepare their own food. There were of course food shops, but these were not located in the villages where the peasants lived. In Medieval England, the villagers resorted to farming as a source of their food. The villagers mainly depended upon water from the rivers as their drinks, but this free option, being dirty, was not fit for drinking purposes.
