On November 14, 1970 at around 7:35 pm the Southern Airways Flight 932 crashed down a hill very near to the Tri-State Airport and killed all seventy-five passengers on board. The death list included the thirty-seven members of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team who earlier cancelled the same flight and later re enlisted to board the plane.
