TMT or tarso metatarsal joint is known as the Lisfranc Joint after the field surgeon of napoleons army at Russian front. Jaques Lisfranc de St. Martin (1790-1847) was the surgeon and gynecologist who discovered a new technique of amputation for the treatment of forefoot gangrene from frostbite. He found that the amputation could be easier if proceeded from the bone pathway. This led to the discovery of the Lisfranc joint.
