She was a Hungarian countess from the renowned Bathory family, which has been known for defending against the Ottoman Turks. One of her ancestors Prince Steven Bathory was even a commanding officer who helped Vlad Dracula. After her husband's death, she and four alleged collaborators were accused of torturing and killing dozens of girls and young women.
