Grognard is a term used in common parlance to refer to a hardcore gamer in different genres like board games, computer games, role-playing games or miniature war games. The word, as used in board wargames, is supposed to have been coined by John Young in the early 1970s during his employment at the Simulations Publications, Inc. The word has apparently come down from its original reference to the old guard of gamers who played military board games before 1969.

The nightclub was located at 315 Bowery in the borough of Manhattan. It was founded in 1973 by Hilly Kristal and though it was originally intended to feature its namesake musical styles, soon the nightclub became a popular venue for American punk and punk-influenced bands.
