Gulf of Mexico Geological History
The Gulf of Mexico ranks ninth largest among the water bodies of the world. This body of water is an oval shaped ocean basin surrounded by the North American continent and the island of Cuba. On the Northeast, North and Northwest it is bordered by the Gulf coast of United States; on the South and Southwest by Mexico and in the Southeast by Cuba. It is about 810 nautical miles or 1500 km wide and is filled with sedimentary rocks and debris.

Tropical Storm Barry Gulf Coast Depression
On the Peninsula's central or northern Gulf coast a number of tropical storms were predicted to cause landfall. It was near the state's Big Bend area, Bonita Beach on Floridas southeast coast from where they warned about it. According to the National Weather service they were expecting 13-17 tropical storms among which 7-10 were supposed to be hurricanes and the rest in some strong category.

Hurricane Rita Relief Tropical Cyclone Gulf Of Mexico
Hurricane Rita Relief efforts were designed in line with the massive scale of damage left in the wake of the most intense tropical cyclone ever observed in the Gulf of Mexico, making landfall on 24 of September 2005, Hurricane Rita caused severe damage to Louisiana and extreme southeastern Texas coast. The destruction caused by the Hurricane, however, found generous relief efforts from all quarters. The relief efforts saw the coming together of community contributions with governmental initiatives.
