Sahara Desert Located In Africa
Sahara Desert is the biggest desert in the world and covers almost whole of North Africa. The huge size of the desert splits the African continent into two distinct regions – the Sahara Desert along with the parts in the north and the rest of Africa below the Sahara Desert. The desert covers 800 to 1,200 miles from north to south and from east to west it spreads over almost 3000 miles.

The camel is commonly known as the friend of man in deserts. The study of camels is an interesting activity.They may have one hump or two humps. It is believed that unlike the common concept of the camel being a desert dweller, around forty million years ago the camel inhabited North America. Later it crossed over to Asia and Africa via Alaska. There are two types of camels in Asia the one-humped camel is called dromedary and the two-humped Bactrian camel. The zoological name of the one-humped camel is Camelus Dromedarius and that of the two-humped camel is Camelus bactrianus.
California Earthquake Mojave Desert Disaster
The California Earthquake, at the small town of Landers, in the Mojave Desert was an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on the richter scale. It occurred at 4:57 a.m. on June 28, 1992. It was the state's largest earthquake since the Kern County earthquake in 1952, which measured 7.7 on the Richter scale. The aftershocks of this 1992 earthquake included the 6.4 magnitude Big Bear Earthquake. One person was killed, two people died of heart attacks and more than 400 people were injured and substantial damages occurred due to this earthquake.
