There are two types of weightlifting events in the Olympic, the snatch and the clean and jerk. More weight can be lifted using the latter method in comparison to other known weightlifting methods. As the name suggests, this lift comprises of two distinctive stages, namely the `clean' and the `jerk'. The world record for weightlifting using this technique stands at 263.5 kg and was established in the 2004 Olympics. Following the revision of the weight classes, an all-time record lift of 266 kg set by a Soviet weightlifter is not taken into consideration.
