Persian New Year Celebrated On Vernal Equinox In March
The Persian New Year is better known as Nowruz in Iran. It starts with commencing of spring as well as from the exact moment of vernal equinox. It is the commencement of New Year for the Iranians. The word Nowruz generally means new daylight that is celebrated on March 21 or 22 every year in Iran. It is a belief that this time the sun enters Aries, which is a constellation between Pisces and Taurus pictured as a ram.

Autumnal Equinox of 2008 has arrived. This means that after today, we would experience longer nights. It was believed in the ancient times that the weather is influenced by the equinox. When Julius Caesar invaded England in 55BC his army experienced storms in the later part of summer and this even exposed his men to the risk of being trapped in England for the winter months. With reference to the Gallic Wars, Caesar mentioned that the approaching equinox made him postpone the voyage till winter. There was nothing supernatural with the Autumnal Equinox, but it was the frequency of the storms that really mattered much!
