The Natural is a novel written by Bernard Malamud, an American Jewish author in the year 1952. The background of this novel is the baseball game and the story revolves around the life of an ace baseball player Roy Hobbs whose career is sidelined after he was shot by a crazy fan. The novel deals with Roys struggle to rise again as a professional baseball player and how he succeeds when he plays for the fictional New York Nights with his celebrated bat Wonderboy. Later on in 1984 a motion picture of the same name was directed by Barry Levinson and Robert Redford cast the character of Roy Hobbs.
