Niagara-on-the-lake is a town in Canada located near the meeting point of River Niagara and Lake Ontario in the Niagara Region of southern Ontario. It is located across the Niagara River from Youngstown, New York. The loveliest town in Canada is its nickname. The town was originally a Neutral Nation village known as Onghiara. British Government founded Butlersburg in 1781, which later became West Niagara. The village was incorporated as the Town of Newark in 1792 and renamed as Niagara in 1798. The present name was adopted to distinguish the town from Niagara Falls. Shaw Festival, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the show where many tourists come from throughout the world.
