The movie Walking Tall was released on February 22, 1973 and was directed by Phil Karlson. It was adapted from the real life story of Sheriff Buford Pusser. It starred Joe Don Baker as Sheriff Buford Pusser and Elizabeth Hartman as his wife Pauline. The story is set in McNairy County, Tennessee. Sequels to it were later released in 1975 and 1977. The title of the movie comes from one of Pusser's favorite sayings the measure of a man is how tall he walks.
