The Digital World OF Bits In 0 And 1 Real Information Converted To Binary Code

The Digital word which is widely used nowadays relates to computers and electronic items. In a Digital system, discrete values are used to represent information as varied as numbers, letters sounds, images along with a host of other information. This digital information can be used for input, output, processing, storage, transmission among others. The world digital comes from the Latin word Digitus meaning finger.

In Digital system, the real world information is converted as binary form. These digital signals carry the electronic pulse that has the amplitude of logical1 or logical 0. The figure 1 means the presence of pulse while 0 represents the absence of the pulse.

It is much easier to convert symbols to digital form as symbols are not continuous and the conversion is less likely to cause data loss. A symbol input device in a digital system has many switches and these are calculated at fixed interval of time to check the switches that are pressed.

If in a single polling phase, two of the switches are pressed or else a switch is once pressed, then released and pressed again, data will get lost. This calculation is done by specialized processor that is present in the device and not by the CPU. If another symbol enters, an interrupt is sent by the device to tell the CPU to read the symbol.

In the case of digital transmissions, the pulse that is re transmitted via wires is very less degraded and they do not create any trouble as they are received. The variances in digital transmissions are of no significance as the value of a signal, which is near to any value, will be taken as that value.

If the device has few switches as in buttons or joystick, the status of the switch is encoded as bits where 0 is provided for release and1 when the switch is pressed. These kinds of switches are found as in shift and control keys of computer that tells about these modifier keys.

If the device has numerous switches like that of a computer keyboard, the switches are put in a form of scan matrix. Each of the switches are present on the crossing of the x and Y lines of the matrix. As a switch is pressed, the device connects the two lines of the switch together. Scanning or Polling is done by the activation of the X line in sequence and finding the Y lines that have a signal, thus knowing the keys that are pressed. Digital
