Churches are the groups of people following Christianity who have their own forms of worships. The term has in the English language through the old English word, called cirice, which is a Greek word meaning Kyriake or the Lord’s House. The theological origin of the word can be traced back in the Greek reference in the New Testament where it is introduced by Jesus of Nazareth. The word is introduced as 'ekklesia' that has the Greek political word meaning a ‘gathering’ or ‘outside the assembly’.
The group called the Church has two main traits. One is the acceptance of Salvation, whereby the followers do the work as done by Jesus. This is feeding the hungry, caring the orphans as well as widows, giving clothes to the naked, and miracle healing. The other is the denomination type group of churches. The Roman Catholic Church is spread globally and has followers that has its own creed or believe in own style of tradition.
There are different class of Christian churches with different religious hierarchies. They have their own creeds and other sacred scripts. These include the Eastern Orthodox Church, the roman church and the restorationist church. Every church considers other churches as legitimate.
Though these churches have different denominations, but the followers of these churches do not have to be re-baptized as they change to other denominations. These show the compatibility among the churches. The common bond among all the mainstream churches is that they all have faith in Jesus and follow him as the savior. The members of these churches try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
There is a wide acceptance among the followers of Christians that the Christian churches are led by the Holy Spirit. Christ is the provider of spiritual authority. The followers believe that Father God has provided Jesus Christ with the power to preach and do all the things that he had done. Before going to the heaven, Jesus Christ provided his apostles to preach and baptize. The apostles similarly conveyed the disciples about this work who similarly told the next disciples.
This practice continued till the second coming of Him. This passing of the authority is continuing under the tutelage of the churches. This work of passing of authority is done by the church through the appointment of pastors or else leaders of different churches. Those becoming members of the church are done through baptism. It is the church which performs baptism, the Lord’s Supper among other rituals.
