Toyota and Honda Top Automotive Brands in Consumer Insight And Choice


Millions of Americans spend time looking surfing through the internet finding the right car. Yet, millions of car dealers spend numerous times advertising their brand. However, the amount of marketing done does not improve the consumer perception without coming close with the car in the showroom.

According to Consumer Reports, Toyota and Honda brands top the list for consumer perception over others. These two brands have continuously performed well on the road, and did well on various tests. They were among the top in their classes.

According to the chart from Consumer Reports, Toyota had a score of 189 at the top of the list, followed by Honda with 146, Ford with 112, Chevrolet at 100, and GMC at 102. On the other hand, we have the not so good. Worst of all brands, we have Buick with a score of 25, followed by Mercury at 22, Mitsubishi at 21, Audi at 14 and worst of all, Acura at 8. These scores were calculated by the National Research center.

They conduct a random, nationwide telephone survey in late December of 2007. They were collected from households who have one adult that owned a vehicle. The brand perception were calculated as the total number of times that the particular make was mentioned as an exemplar across all seven categories, divided by the total unaided mentions.

There were several results from the survey. They survey concluded that safety was most important from new car shoppers. Also, car buyers prefer friendliness to the environment rather than being stylish. The “Technology and innovation” category was least important to consumers. From the survey, Toyota and Honda rank in the top five in six of the seven categories. Also, Chevrolet and Ford are the only US makes that rank in the top five categories. Lastly, Toyota and Honda have the greatest images for environmental friendliness.

Toyota began in 1993, from the automobile department of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works. The Toyota Motor Company was found in Japan of 1937. The first Toyota vehicles arrive to the US in 1957. Today, more than half of the Toyota cars are sold in America. Honda began in 1946 at the Honda Technical Research Institute. Honda began selling vehicles to the US in 1970.
