Kasatochi Volcano Island Andrean Islands Alaska Rated Aviation Alert Level ORANGE Erruption

Kasatochi Island is also called as Kasatochi volcano and refers to the active stratovolcano. It is regarded as one of the Andrean of Islands subgroup of the Aleutian Islands that lies in southwestern Alaska, USA. It is based at the Atka Pass 3 which is on the northwest of the western tip of Atka Island as well as on the east of Great Sitkin Island.

It covers a total land area of 5.051 square kilometers and is deserted. In recent times, the Kasatochi volcano is rated in the form of Aviation Alert Level ORANGE as well as Volcanic-alert Level WATCH by the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The shortening of the summit was done by a huge volcanic crater that was comprised of a broad crater lake measuring 0.5 miles. The exterior of the saltwater lake measured below 200 ft above sea level.

The eruption of Kasatochi volcano started in an explosive manner on August 7, 2008 as accompanied with ash trail of an altitude of 35,000 feet and managing to get up to 45,000 feet. As a consequence of the forthcoming eruption, two biologists belonging to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had to abandon the island. The issuance of an ash fall advisory was done for Adak Island.

The previous commotion that took place at Kasatochi volcano was in the year 1899 but that was not treated in the form of an eruption.Earthquake in a major form was reported to have erupted on August 9, 2008 registering 5.4 on the Richter Scale as per the reports of Alaska Volcano Observatory as well as the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.

The AVO highlighted the fact that volcanic eruption has diminished right from the offset of August 9th but there are big chances of their recommencing without any prior warning. The scientists have to depend on the data collected from the adjoining Great Sitkin volcano as well as Adak Island for getting informed about Kasatochi volcano as in recent times there is the absence of seismographs or webicorders on the island of Kasatochi. The reporting of gentle degassing was made to the AVO in the year 2005 but no confirmation was received. Kasatochi volcano
