Associazione Calcio Pistoiese is an Italian football club, based in Pistoia, Tuscany. The club was founded in 1921 and re-founded in 1988. Pistoiese currently plays in Serie C1/B, having last been in Serie A in 1981. The team's colors are orange and blue. A C Pistoiese states about the club's positive features. Pistoiese achieved prominence by rising to Serie B in the late 1970s with promotion to Serie A following in 1980.
With veterans like Marcello Lippi and Mario Frustalupi and promising young talents such as Paolo Benedetti, Pistoiese made a reasonable start to Serie A life and were as high as 6th after a win at Fiorentina. A C Pistoiese delves more into its activities. In the 2005/06 Serie C1/B campaign, Pistoiese battled against demotion from Serie C1 with goals proving hard to come by, yet having one of the best defensive records in the division.
A good season ending brought the team to a good 9th place, but just three points ahead the relegation playouts. A C Pistoiese discusses about Serie C. Serie C is the name of the third and fourth highest football leagues in Italy. It is broken up into Serie C1 (third tier) and Serie C2 (fourth tier). In turn, Serie C1 consists of two divisions: Serie C1/A and Serie C1/B, both of 18 teams.
At the end of the season, four teams go up to Serie B and six teams (three from each division) go down to Serie C2. Serie C2 consists of three divisions: Serie C2/A, Serie C2/B, and Serie C2/C, all of them composed of 18 teams. At the end of the season, six teams (two from each division) go up to Serie C1 and nine teams go down to Serie D. For both Serie C1 and C2, teams are split into divisions by geographical criteria.
Serie A, as it is structured today, began in 1929. From 1898 to 1929 the competition was organised into regional groups. No title was awarded in 1927 after Torino were stripped of the championship by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Torino were declared champions in the 1948-49 season following a plane crash near the end of the season in which the entire team was killed.
