The church volunteers are those people who provide all sorts of assistance in running a church. The best thing about church volunteers is that you do not have to pay anything to these people. They are involved in not only church operations like administration, but contribute in the growth and development of the church.
The church volunteers help in pastoral care, music ministry and in cases in housekeeping too. Most of the churches have different policies when it comes to the recruitment part of church volunteers. Most of the candidates are selected from the church congregation itself who are popularly known as “friends of the church”.
Some of the other members include family and friends who live in the community itself. Most of the volunteers can sign up for a number of one-day events like block parties or neighborhood rallies. There are however some who want to be part of the community activities for a longer time.
Recruiting the church volunteers are easy, but retaining them can be little difficult as most of them work for free. In that case semi-annual or annual volunteer appreciation events are organized. There are some easy steps through which the volunteers can be retained. Even before the volunteers begin work, the goals or objectives of the program s to communicated properly to the volunteers.
The volunteers should feel that by helping the community they are learning something. Most of the volunteers are recruited in such a way so that they interest matches their work. Apart from the benefit of the church, they should also feel that they are contributing for their benefit also while doing their work.
Church volunteers can be selected from all walks of life. The Volunteers in Mission or VIM is one such program where students, retired persons, doctors and nurses come with the intention of helping the church. Most of the church volunteers can be involved in works like painting, construction, digging foundations and roofing.
As for the medical teams they can work in the rural areas for the betterment of health and hygiene for the people. Sometimes the stakes are very high as the volunteers have to sacrifice a number of worldly pleasures for the benefit of the church. There are instances where almost 10 to 15 people have huddled in one room. However the cause was so important that they did not feel any discomfort. It is their motto to serve the church that matters most to them.
