The punishment for the Crimes depends on the nature of the activities and the age of the accused. The juvenile offenders are often sent to the rehabilitation homes for reformation. In cases of drug and substance abuse, psychiatric and medical treatment is offered. The criminal law policy of USA has undergone many changes from time to time. After the 1980s, sentencing the criminals to lengthy prison terms was started. The persons committing heinous crimes like murder are often sentenced to life imprisonment.
