Horizon Air refers to the airline operating regionally with its base in SeaTac, Washington. It is regarded as the eighth largest airline and provides its services to 52 different cities in Canada and Mexico.

The main hub of Horizon Airlines is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport while the other little hubs are at Portland International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. It is basically the sister carrier to Alaska Airlines and they together held membership to Alaska Air Group. It is also into codeshare partnership with American Airlines as well as Northwest Airlines.

It was created in May 1981 through the efforts of Milt Koult. It initiated operating on 1st September 1981. The first route it followed was from Seattle to Yakima, Washington. The offices meant for general purposes were situated in an old house behind Sea-Tac airport. It further took over Air Oregon in the year 1982 as well as Transwestern Airlines in 1983. In the year 1985 Horizon Airlines got hold of its first jet called as Fokker F28 and started operation of feeder flights representing Northwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

It was purchased by Alaska Air Group in 1986 and thereon it carried its operation in an independent way. The fleet of Horizon Airlines was comprised of 17 DE Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q200, 33 DE Havilland Canada Dash 8 Q400 and 20 Bombardier CRJ-700. The bookings and connection services of this airline are shared with Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, KLM and Alaska Airlines.

It was till December 2007 that it carried out the operation of regional jet services for Frontier Airlines. Its secondary hubs are located in places like Boise, Portland, Spokane and Denver. The number of people employed in Horizon Airlines turns up to a figure of 4,040 as per the records of March 2007. At the onset of 2007, it also subleased 16 Dash 8 Q-200 aircraft to CommutAir.

Horizon Airlines is also highlighted in many movies and could be seen in the motion picture namely WarGames in 1983. In recent times the livery of Horizon Airlines resembles that of its parent, Alaska. The only difference is the dark red cleatline and presence of stylized sun and sunset logo on the tail in place of an eskimo. Horizon Airlines
