
Harold Gregory "Hal" Moore, Jr. was born on November 29, 1923 in Bardstown, Kentucky. He is basically a United States Army Lieutenant General who is already retired. He did also receive the Distinguished Service Cross which is regarded as the second important military decoration belonging to the United States Army.
Hal Moore also served as the Lieutenant Colonel in command of the 1st battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, 7th Cavalry Regiment at the Battle of Ia Drang that took place in Vietnam on November 14–16, 1965. In recent times he is positioned as the "Honorary Colonel" of the Regiment. His probability of getting appointed to the United States Military Academy was minimized as a result of the demographics of the particular area.
Hal Moore shifted to Washington, D.C. and it was here that he led to the completion of his high school education. He later joined the George Washington University for a span of two years and then in the year 1942 got appointment from a Georgia congressman. He did his graduation in 1945 from West Point and opted for graduate studies at George Washington as well as Harvard universities. He did also landed up with a Masters degree in international relations.
Hal Moore got commissioned in the form of a second lieutenant in 1945 and further sought retirement in the year 1977. Moore also got promotion to the posts of Major General, Brigadier General as well as Lieutenant General. Further on getting retired he provided his services in the form of the Executive Vice President belonging to the Crested Butte Ski Area, Colorado.
The other awards which he received include Combat Infantryman Badge, 2003 USO Patriot Award as well as Master Paratrooper.
Hal Moore also wrote We Were Soldiers Once… And Young as accompanied with the co-author namely Joseph L. Galloway and this book was adapted into a movie called as We Were Soldiers. The filming of this movie was done at Fort Benning as well as Fort Hunter Liggett and the role of Moore was performed by Mel Gibson. He was married to Julia Compton Moore and they together had five kids and a number of grandchildren.
