Cause Of Weight Gain Obesity Food Habits Hypothyroidism Cushings Syndrome Imbalanced Blood Sugar

Although the world is getting more concerned about their waistlines now, obesity is a teething problem. People put on weight when they fail to use up the excess energy in their body. A major cause of weight gain is the improper food habit of a person. Certain diseases also lead to weight gain.

Diseases like hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, imbalanced blood sugar level, a deficit of the essential fatty acids and a diseased organ can also be a cause of weight gain. At times anxiety and prescribed drugs can lead to unnecessary weight gain. This proves that only an improper diet or high calorie foods are not responsible for the increased weight of a person. The doctor should be consulted as soon as one notices an abnormal rise in weight.

One prominent cause of weight gain is hypothyroidism. The decreased secretion of the hormone, thyroid, is directly proportional to the metabolism. Consequently the person looses appetite and gains weight. This kind of weight gain happens from retention of fluid as well as accumulation of protein in the body. The signs of hypothyroidism are swollen eyes, rough and dry skin, general weakness, headache, minimal sweating, exhaustion and lethargic feeling.

Essential fatty acids are an important element of the body, a deficit of which creates a desire to consume excess high calorie foods and is a major cause of weight gain. Essential fatty acids promote hormone production and balance the metabolic rate. The deficiency of essential fatty acids is reflected through the presence of dandruff, coarse hair and peeling of the scalp. Crushing Syndrome takes place when there is surplus secretion of cortisol. This leads to accumulation of fat in the back, face as well as abdomen. The symptoms include stretch marks, irregular menstrual cycle, hair loss and increased blood pressure.

Food sensitivity is another cause of weight gain. Different people may react to foods in different ways. In most of the cases, the person is seen to have swollen eyes, hands, legs, chin or abdomen. This is due to the retention of fluids and the secretion of certain hormones. Gas production due to fermentation of carbohydrates gives a bloated up feeling.

Some people tend to gorge extra food owing to their depression or high stress level. This leads to weight gain. If the blood sugar level fluctuates or an organ gets enlarged, a person may put on weight. Hence weight gain should not be overlooked, and a physician has to be consulted immediately. weight gain
