A J Auxerre Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise French Football Club Team


A J. Auxerre is the short form of Association de la Jeunesse Auxerroise. It is a French football team. The team plays in the town of Auxerre in Burgundy. The home ground of the club, Stade I'Abbe-Deschamps is situated on the banks of the River Yonne. The capacity of the ground is 23,467.


Jean-Claude Hamel and Jean Fernandez are respectively the chairman and manager of the club. The club plays in Ligue 1. Auxerre are throughout Europe. For a club from such a small town, their success at the highest level is unprecedented. A J Auxerre narrates that as Guy Roux retired after having been manager since 1961, Auxerre was forced to seek a new manager for the 1st time in over 40 years after the 2004-05 season.

During the tenure of Roux, the club rose through every division in French football. In 1980, the club was promoted to Ligue 1. In 1996, the club played in the French championship. A J Auxerre replaced Roux with Jacques Santini. He was a former France national team head coach.He was the manager of several top French clubs and had a brief stint at Tottenham Hotspur of England.

But as a result of failure, he was sacked after only one season. Jean Fernandez replaced him for the 2006-07 seasons. A J Auxerre describes that in the current season, there are total 34 players in the club. The goal keepers are Fabien Cool, Arnaud Sauvage and Baptiste Chabert. Johan Radet, Jean-Sebastian Juarez, Stephane Grichting, Rene Bolf, Jean-Pascal Mignot, Oumar Kalabane, Younes Kaboul, Michail Ciani, Bakari Sagna and Baptiste Martin are the defenders of the team.

The players of midfield are Benoit Cheyrou, Issa Ba, Thomas Kahlenberg, Frederic Thomas, Hassan Yebda, Lionel Mathis, Krisztian Vadocz, Alain Traore etc. Luigi Pieroni, Kanga Akale, Daniel Niculae, Ireneusz Jelen, Kamil Oziemczuk and Kevin Lejeune play for the forward position.The club was founded in 1905 by the priest Father Deschamps. Soon, it tasted success and went onto become a force in the catholic league F.G.S.P.F. A.J. Auxerre
