CBS News Chief Foreign Correspondent Interviews Gulbeddin Hekmatyar A Top Enemy Of The United States

Lara Logan, the chief foreign correspondent of CBS News has reported about the Afghan warlord Gulbeddin Hekmatyar who falls under the category of the most notorious terrorists of the remote mountain- area of north- eastern Afghanistan. The warlord is said to have attacked the U.S. troops and to have evaded capture for approximately seven years. The CBS News representative had been successful in taking an exclusive interview of Gulbeddin Hekmatyar in his secret hideout.

The warlord communicated through a translator that the resistance is making its way to extensions and that it is becoming stronger day by day. It is very interesting to note that Gulbeddin Hekmatyar used to enjoy active support from the U.S. as a freedom fighter in the mujahedeen resistance organized against the Russian occupation of the 1980s. But now it has bounced back! He is an enemy of the U.S. to have led a rebellion that had cost the lives of many American soldiers and have led to the formation of a chaotic situation in Afghanistan.

Today, the U.S. military forces are in constant search for this terrorist who is often changing places to look for secret hideouts. He communicated through the translator that although he is living in a secret hiding place of a village which is under the threat of American war planes, he manages to sleep at night with peace of mind which George Bush, sleeping in the White House cannot afford without the help of sleeping pills.

The warlord has described George Bush as a warmonger who is solely responsible behind Iran’s interference in the affairs of Afghanistan. He further has said that the setting up of military posts in very sensitive areas of Afghanistan by Iran has been destroying his country, Afghanistan. It seems as if it is not an easy affair to stop people like Hekmatyar. We can draw this inference from the fact that several thousands of additional U.S. troops have been deployed in Afghanistan to check terrorist activities.

The warlord had also dictated a word of warning to the Afghan Security forces consisting of Afghan soldiers who have been appointed by America to fight against the terrorists. The seven long years of resistance of Gulbeddin Hekmatyar is even active today with the same degree of determination. CBS News
