Money Tree Jade Plant Indoors Bonsai Crassula Ovata Mealybugs Enemy

People use many variants of small sized indoor plants for decorating their rooms and interior. One such extensively used indoor plant is the jade plant or Money Tree. Its scientific name is Crassula ovata. Some people refer to it as the friendship tree also.

Money Tree is a type of indoor bonsai. It is a tender plant and its flowers are white and pink in color. In South Africa this is produced in mass. However, it has become popular all over the world. It falls in the category of the evergreen plants. The leaves of the plant are rounded and smooth and its branches are thick.

What makes this plant really attractive are its olive green colored leaves. The leaves of some of the variants can turn reddish when exposed to prolonged sunlight. When new stem begins growing it has the same color of the leaves but with time turns woody and brownish in texture. The flowers usually bloom in early spring.

When the soil becomes dry during the summer season, the Money Tree requires watering on a regular basis. But in winter they do not need much watering. However, over watering is strictly prohibited as it can make the tree lose its leaves and the stem can rot. Even though it requires adequate amount of sunlight like other trees, over exposure to sunlight can prove to be detrimental to its health. Similarly overexposure to chilling temperature and frost can kill the plant.

The owners of Money Tree should trim the plant occasionally during springtime. It is beneficial for the overall health and growth of the plant. Care should be taken by the owners to protect this lovely plant from the insects and pests. The commonest enemy of Money tree is the Mealybugs. This can pose a hindrance to the growth of the plants. These bugs need to be killed individually to prevent new breeds infesting the plant. Other menaces are red spider mites and Aphids. The money tree is extremely sensitive to pesticides so they should be used with caution.

The Money Tree grows well in soils that dry quickly. It is a tree that propagates heavily. The leaf cutting and stems of the tree is enough to ensure the growth of a new plant. This is the way the tree spreads rapidly in jungles and hilly regions. Therefore, the owners can make new plants from the existing ones without any problem. Money Tree
