GPS Systems Navigational System Exact Position Direction Speed Monitor By Satellite Signal

Global Positioning System, which is popularly known as the GPS systems, is a navigational system through which the longitude and latitude of a receiver can be determined. By calculating time difference from the signals received from different satellites, this system can track the exact location of a GPS receiver in the earth.

GPS system utilizes the signals of twenty-four satellites, which are placed in a constellation above the Earth. GPS can accurately calculate the direction, speed and location of a receiver. It has been developed by the United States Department of Defense. The official name of GPS system is NAVSTAR GPS. The United States spends huge amount money for maintaining and further developing this cutting edge monitoring and navigation system.

For ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of GPS systems, sometimes aged the new ones replace satellites. The civilians now use this system after the issuing of a directive in 1983. As a matter of fact, GPS is currently used for executing various tasks. The meteorologists use this system for studying earthquakes. The position of a GPS receiver can be calculated by analyzing signals from four or five GPS satellites. These signals are needed to get the local time that helps to locate a receiver on a map. Though the signals of four satellites are generally required in common cases, sometimes less than three signals can suffice.

A GPS system consists of three parts: user segment (US), control segment (CS) and space segment (SS). The delay of signal and the positions of satellites are the two most important aspects that determine the accuracy of the result of GPS systems. However, the speed of GPS system can be affected by the adverse conditions in atmosphere. When the signals of satellites pass through the different layers of atmosphere especially through the ionosphere, they can be affected if there is any turbulence. This can hamper the accuracy of a result generated by GPS system. This is a tough task to rectify this minuscule error.

Humidity is another factor that can influence the GPS systems. This can generate errors, which is very much similar to the error caused by the delay in ionosphere region. This issue can change very fast making it more difficult to rectify the errors. Multipath issues can also influence the efficiency of GPS systems. For resolving this problem, a variety of technology has been integrated into this system. Choke ring antenna, which is one kind of specialized antennas, can be incorporated with this system to erase the multipaths errors. GPS Systems
