For those of you who aren't familiar with the Belmont Stakes,
here's a little historical background.
The Belmont Stakes is an American horse race competition
that occurs yearly in the month of June. The Belmont Stakes was named after
August Belmont, who was a financier who made an influence in politics. The
Belmont Stakes take place in Elmont,
New York. This race proudly
presents the Triple Crown, which is after the Kentucky Derby. Another name for
the Belmont Stakes is the "Run for the Carnations." The Kentucky
Derby is held on the first Sunday in May.
The first Belmont Stakes was on Jerome Park Racetrack in
the Bronx.
Many of the races occurred there until 1905. The new Belmont Stakes was
built with 430 acres of racetrack. In 1911 and 1912, the races were canceled
because of Anti-betting laws.

As a trainer and jockey, James Rowe and George Odom became
winners of the Belmont Stakes. In 1993, the famous female jockey Julie Krone,
won the Triple Crown with her horse Colonial Affair. In 1973, Secretariat's victory
breaks a world record for the mile and a half on dirt.
The main course of the Stakes is one and a half miles.
With the last turn on the track, it measure up to 1097 feet. The total capacity
of the stadium can hold 32941 individuals.
During the Belmont Stakes, there are only twenty-six horses were entitled
to win the Triple Crown, but only eleven have succeeded.
