A credit card refers to a little card made up of plastic provided to the user in order to make payment. Use of credit card is a system through which the issuer give money to the consumer for making payment against the goods which he purchased from a merchant.

A large number of credit cards are provided by the banks running locally as well as by Credit Unions having similar dimension as per the specification of ISO 7810 standard. The front portion of a typical credit card includes the logo of the bank issuing card, hologram, credit card number, EMV chip, expiry date, name of the cardholder as well as Card brand logo. On the other hand the back portion shows a signature strip, Card Security Code as well as Magnetic Stripe.

This card is given to the user only after the verification of his accounts. When the card user purchases any commodity through credit card then he gives his consent of paying such amount of money by putting his signature on the receipt which includes the full detais of the card including the amount. Every month the credit card holder receives a statement showing the full details of purchase transactions made, outstanding fees as well as the total amount due.

A minimum amount due is also mentioned in the statement along with the due date indicating that the card holder must pay the minimum amount within the specified due date or may opt for the full payment of the total outstanding. The important fees that are charged by the credit card issuer includes late payment charges, returned cheque fees, annually or monthly membership fees, Exchange Rate Loading Fees and many more.

The credit card provider generally do not charge any interest if the card holder pays the total amount due within the stipulated date highlighted on the statement. On the other hand they charge the interest on the overall outstanding if the total amount due is not paid. Now-a-days due to the high competition in the credit card industry, many credit card issuers provides various beneficial offers like gift certificates, frequent flyer points, cash back and many more. The system of using card for buying goods was described by Edward Bellamy in his novel called Looking Backward in the year 1887. Credit card
