Frontier Airlines operates from Denver International Airport of USA which is its chief hub. It was formed in 1994. Its headquarters are in Colorado. Initially Frontier only possessed Boeing 737, but later they bought Airbus and introduced facilities like television viewing for the passengers. Passengers are also provided with snacks during the flight. By 2003 it contained only Airbus aircrafts. Its flights go to 63 destinations. It is operated by the Republican Airlines.

In 2002 Frontier Airlines announced the launch of Frontier JetExpress. This was formally controlled by Mesa Airlines. The contract with Mesa ended in early 2004. Then Frontier seeked aid from Horizon. Horizon dissolved their contract in mid 2006. Frontier had to give back its jets to horizon by the end of 2007.

With the arrival of 2006, Frontier had joined hands with AirTran Airways. They introduced the early returns Club for regular passengers. AirTran and Frontier also pass-on their customers to each other due to urgent requirements. Early 2007 witnessed frontier airlines being certified as one of the chief airlines of US Department of Transportation. Frontier decided to extend its list of chief hub with the addition of Los Angeles but due to increasing competition and hike in fuel price they had to withdraw.

But passengers can avail Frontier Airlines’ flights from Los Angeles, California and Mexico. Frontier also serves Canada, New York, Philadelphia and Washington. In mid 2007, Frontier declared that it was extending its services to Costa Rica as it would operate from the airport of San Jose. This was Frontier’s way of entering Central America. But these flights do not operate in the last four months of the year. Frontier is one of the cheapest airlines in the US.

Frontier Airlines has been felicitated with the FAA Diamond Award each year starting from 1999. This award certifies airlines whose technicalities and maintenance undergo added training, exceeding the criteria of FAA. This award is only given when 25% of the crew members go through this extra training. Frontier Airlines is the only airlines to have received this award for seven uninterrupted awards. Frontier has also shown full participation from crew members. Frontier Airlines was the first airlines to offer the passengers the privilege of shopping on-board.

Frontier Airlines declare that its new share holder would be Lynx Aviation from 2006. Lynx was supposed to provide Frontier with ten Bombardier Q400 cargos that would enhance their quality of service. These carriers started functioning from December 2007. Frontier Airlines had signed a contract with Republic Airlines in 2007. According to this contract, they were to function together for 11 years. In early 2008, Republican Airlines declared that it would not function with Frontier Airlines any longer. In 2008 April Frontier airlines registered for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
