Admiral James Stockdale Highest Ranked Naval Officer Awarded The Medal Of Honor Four Silver Stars


James Bond Stockdale was born on December 23, 1923 in Abingdon, Illinois and was a well known officer in United States Navy. He worked at the rank of the Vice Admiral and managed to get 26 personal combat decorations that was comprised of the Medal of Honor as well as four Silver Stars.

James Stockdale was the highest ranking naval officer who was kept as a prisoner in Vietnam in Hoa Lo prison for a span of seven years. He underwent lot of physical pain as he was kept locked in leg irons and was beaten on a regular basis. He provided his services in the later part of 1970s in the form of President of the Naval War College.

At the time of the World War II, he spent a short time getting educated at Monmouth College and later went ahead to get the graduation degree from the Naval Academy in 1947.

James Stockdale had lots of admiration for his father who was the one to put in his best for providing him admission in Annapolis. On the completion of his graduation Stockdale moved ahead to get flight training and for this reason he reported to Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Florida. He got selected in 1954 to be a part of Test Pilot School that is located at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland.

Further James Stockdale was moved to Stanford University by the Navy in 1959 and here he landed up with the masters degree in International Relations and Marxist Theory. The literary work of James included A Vietnam Experience: Ten Years of Reflection, In Love and War: The Story of a Family's Ordeal and Sacrifice During the Vietnam Years, Thoughts of a Philosophical Fighter Pilot to name a few of them.

In order to honor James Stockdale, a luxury suite that is located at the Loews Annapolis Hotel is named after him. Stockdale met the end of his life suffering from Alzheimer's disease on July 5, 2005.
