The Goldfish is typically one of the easily fish to raise. Ranging from a large number of varieties, these fishes live in cold environments from 40 – 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The scientific name for the goldfish is called Carassius auratus. The goldfish is the most common fish kept in an aquarium.

The length of the goldfish can grow up to 24 inches. The longevity of the goldfish is very long. The oldest goldfish was kept up to 49 years. Most household kept goldfish for 6 to 8 years.

Goldfish is kept in cold water. The goldfish can also be kept in a heated aquarium, but it can be risky because increasing temperature leads to decreasing oxygen. The goldfish breathes through the gills.

Common goldfish maybe kept in ponds, large aquariums, and even small fish bowls. Although keeping fishes in bowls is not recommended, it can be done. Goldfish usually live in freshwater with a pH of 6.0 – 7.5. Water temperatures will range from 40 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Again, with increasing temperature, they will not last long.

Goldfish can be fed small pellets depending on their size, flakes, bloodworms, and leafy vegetables. Sometimes, they can be fed small brine shrimps.

Changing the water of the goldfish is necessary. Goldfish are common for their excessive waste and non-stop eating habits. Feed them only the amount that can be eaten in one or two minutes. They will continue to eat whenever they find food. It is important not to feed the goldfish to an extent where they are overfed. Intense feeding can burst their intestines. This will lead to diseases and eventually death.

The breeding of the goldfish is quite interesting. Similarly, goldfish lay eggs. The eggs hatch within 48 to 72 hours. After a week or so, the fry will began developing fins and manage to form the shape of the goldfish. The eggs should be kept in a separate tank to prevent damages.
