The popular song of all times, Don t you forget about me is the hit single from the film called The Breakfast Club by John Hughes. The song, released in the year 1985, is credited to the Simple Minds. This pop song of four minutes and nineteen seconds duration, was recorded in 1984.

The lyicists of the song, Don’t you forget about me, were Oscar-winners Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff who was the guitarist and songwriter from the Nina Hagen band. Initially Forsey approached Bryan Ferry and Billy Idol to record the song, but was rejected by both. It was Schiff's suggestion to get the song recorded by the new wave band Simple Minds. After primary refusal the band agreed to record the song but only under its own label called A&M.

The song Don’t you forget about me was recorded within three hours at a studio in north London. It was just another song for the singers as well as the composers. Though nobody expected anything pathbreaking from the song. But the song not only became super hit and the most defining song of the 1980s, it also became a milestone in the career of the Simple Minds band. However the band even then did not acknowlege the song and did not include it in its immediate next album titled Once Upon A Time. It was finally included in its album called best of Glittering Prize 8192.

The story of the film revolved around five teenagers who were held back in school on an weekend as detention. Though from different backgrounds and nature, they go into self-exploration.

The music video on the song Don’t you forget about me was directed by Daniel Kleinman. The video was aesthatically shot on a dark dance floor with only a chandelier, a rocking horse and Sony television sets.
