Fisker Karma Car By Quantum Technologies Launched In Detroit Auto Show

Fisker Coach Build is a car design firm based in Orange Country, California. The company mainly produces custom sports cars. Fisker also designs and manufactures after market parts such as 3-piece aluminum alloy wheels, carbon fibre engine covers and custom leather interior trim packages for BMW 6-series and M6 as well as Mercedes-Benz SL models.

The company was founded by Henrik Fisker and Bernhard Koehlerin January 2005. Fisker automotive is a joint venture between Quantum Technologies and Fisker Coachbuild. All models will feature cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology known as Quantum Drive, developed by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive. The first production car is Fisker Karma.

The Quantum Technologies and Fisker Coachbuild together build their first car Fisker Karma which made its Worldwide North American debut at the2008 Detroit Auto Show on January 14. It is particularly apt as the coach builders aim is to present customer a luxury sports car about which they could be proud of. They would feel proud for what the car does and what it does not do to the environment.

Fisker Karma is powered by Quantum Drive, a system developed by Quantum Technologies which combines a four-cylinder engine sending power to a generator to propel the four-door sedan. It can run from zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 125 mph. The batteries are placed themselves smack dab in the middle of the car, which lowers the cars center of gravity and improves its weight distribution.

Two different modes available to drivers of Fisker Karma. One is dubbed Stealth Drive which is a pure electric mode that allows the car to run off the lithium ion battery pack for 50 miles before the engine kicks into boost the juice. The second one is a sport mode that integrates the four-banger for peak performance and makes the car sounds like a combination of a jet fighter and an F1 car. It is a luxury car at heart and will include a navigation system and DVD player with headrest-mounted displays.

The design of the car is very much unique and public is crushing over it. It is like Maserati Quattroporte with more curves and characters. One who will own this car may not see another car on road ever. To get the car people has to wait till 2009 to take delivery. It will commence in the fourth quarter of 2009 with annual production projected to reach 15,000 cars. Price of Fisker Karma is $80,000. The first 99 owners wick be signed by the designer Henrik Fisher and will be individually numbered.
