Audra McDonald is a popular award wining actress and singer. Her popularity has risen higher after she has received Tony Wards for four times. She is being seen starring as Dr. Naomi Bennett in Private Practice, a drama on ABC television. Now, she is a calm and quiet person with her ambition soaring high. Her fame and wealth has not restricted her from remaining the same down-to-earth person.

Audra McDonald took birth on July 3, 1970. This awesome lady was born on Berlin in Germany and was brought up in Fresno in California. She has one younger sister whom she loves very much. Her parents made her study acting to balance her behavior being a hyperactive child. Acting finally made her life and she got rid of the irritation in her mind.

Audra McDonald completed her graduation from the Roosevelt School of the Arts program within Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno. She studied classical voice at the Juilliard School of Music when she was an undergraduate. Audra completed her graduation in 1993 and started to concentrate more on acting.

Audra McDonald won Tony Awards for three times when she was at the age of 28. She was nominated for awards at an early age due to her performances in Master Class, Carousel and others. Her name is pronounced along with Gwen Verdon, Shirley Booth, and Zero Mostel. The last five years were very promising for Audra.

Audra McDonald has kept relationship with her classical training and collection. It was 2006 when two solo one-act operas were sung by Audra at the Houston Grand Opera in 2006. Her performance in the world premiere of Michael John LaChiusa's and Saint Francis Poulenc's La Voix Humaine was highly appreciated by her fans. Audra did starring in Fall of the City of Mahagonny and the Los Angeles Opera production of Kurt Weill's opera Rise. Fall of the City of Mahagonny was directed by John Doyle.

Audra McDonald appeared on big screen in It Runs in the Family, Best Thief in the World, The Object of My Affection, Seven Servants and Cradle Will Rock with great appreciation. She also made her appearance in many dramatic and musical programs in television. She was given an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries in 2001. The associated HBO film was Wit, directed by Mike Nichols and starred by Emma Thompson.

Solo recordings made by Audra McDonald include How Glory Goes, Build a Bridge, Way Back to Paradise and Happy Songs. She received 4 Tony Awards in Raisin in the Sun, Carousel, Ragtime and Master Class. McDonald comes to the Ravinia Festival during 2007-2008 season to join with Patti LuPone in a special concert.
