Bar Harbor, Maine is a small town in United States. It is located in Maine on the Mount Desert Island in the County of Hancock. The Acadia National Park is located on the major portion of Bar Harbor. Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory and Jackson Laboratory are located in this region.

The native refer to the island of Bar Harbor, Maine as sloping land. The early men hunted animals and fishes in this area. The French explorer Samuel de Champlain named this island as island of barren mountains. The island is presently called Mount Desert Island. During the later part of the 18th century people were involved in lumbering, fishing and shipbuilding industries. The soil in this area was very fertile and so agriculture was easily done. The first hotel in this area was built by Tobias Roberts in the year 1855. The first summer estate, Birch Point was established in the year 1868. Many people started visiting this area and so by the end of 1880 about 30 hotels were built. The elite crowd was more seen in this part of the island. American Vice-President Nelson Rockefeller was born here.

But after 1947 the scenario at Bar Harbor, Maine changed completely. A severe drought hit Maine. Forest fire also became common. They would usually last for minimum of ten days. Many summer houses and five hotels were totally burnt. The economic condition of the city as well as the people was badly damaged. The Acadia National Park was completely destroyed. Many wild lives were also disturbed. Luckily the business district was not affected either by fire or drought.
