Chinese Medicine Traditional Formulations For Treatment

All over the world, there are various types of medicines. We are more or less conversant with alternative medical systems like Allopathy, Homeopathy, Ayurvedic, Unani, Naturopathy etc, but how many of you know about Chinese medicine? While there is no doubt that a huge percentage of the worlds population consists of Chinese people, very few, apart from them, know about this branch of treatment. There are two types of Chinese medicine, the classical and the traditional.

The traditional Chinese medicine is more or less considered to be an alternate form of medical system like the ones noted above. Medicines used in this form of treatment owe their roots to traditional formulations that have been developed and used for more than several thousand years. This variant of treatment which is also known as TCM in many countries, surprisingly, finds no place in the Chinese language.

The word TCM, as traditional Chinese medicine is also referred to, had been coined in the 1950s to enable the Peoples Republic of China to export these medicines to foreign countries. There is no equivalent word for the same in the Chinese language. One will be amazed to know that TCM is in fact a modern compilation of the traditional style of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture, herbal medicine and massages are part of the TCM.

The other type of Chinese medicine is the classical Chinese medicine (CCM). Though it is different from TCM, it does use quite a lot of information from the same. The history of this form of medicine is also thousands of years old. Whereas TCM is trying to promote Chinese medicine in western countries, CCM does not. The doctors practicing this branch of medicine rely a lot on the medicinal skills that can be found in ancient texts.

The effectiveness of Chinese medicine has benefited the world for more than two thousand years. With the passing of time, this branch of medicine has updated itself to keep pace with modern times, but still the fundamentals of the same have not changed.

Scholars of classical Chinese medicine research into both the modern form of treatment as well as the ancient scriptures and try to deduce the common factor among them. Though practitioners of CCM can easily understand TCM it is not the same the other way round.

To have an in-depth knowledge of classical Chinese medicine, it helps if one is born in a family where the same is practiced. Quite a few secrets of the same are passed down from generation to generation so that it can benefit the future generations. Apart from this reason, the old texts of CCM are written in texts, which are tough to decipher. For those who are interested, CCM can be learned in up to date ways too. Chinese medicine
