
Rudy Galindo the renowned figure skater, representing United States won the 1988 world junior championship. He became the winner of the senior championships in the following year and as well as in 1990. As a pair he combined very well with Kristi Yamaguchi. After his long time partnership with Yamaguchi that finally broke in the year 1990, he returned to the singles arena.
Rudy was rewarded in the year 1996, when he won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships played at the San Jose Arena. The record stood out as Rudy became the oldest participant to win the title in almost fifty years. Rudy Galindo continued to make his presence felt even at the last years of his career by winning the bronze medal in the 1996 world championships. He was forced to retire when he was at the form of his life after getting diagnosed with AIDS. Galindo was born in San Jose, CA in the year 1969.
Rudy Galindo was reported to have been suffering from pneumonia. The disease became out of control and did not respond to any of the medical treatments. It was during this time, through the medical tests conducted by the doctors it was discovered that he was the victim of this dreaded disease. To combat AIDS, Rudy started the antiretroviral treatment immediately. His response to the treatment was exceptional and he went back to lead a regular life from the middle of April 2000. Rudy was elected as the Co chairperson of the highly esteemed National Minority AIDS Council. Though it was an honorary job, he worked sincerely and promoted the organization's campaign, which dealt with HIV-related anemia.
Rudy Galindo took part on the ice summer tour and skated passionately. He provided stiff competition in all the events in which he took part. He continued to flourish during the 2000-2001 professional seasons, by managing the runner up spot in the World Skating Championships.His amiable, open hearted and optimistic nature made him a popular guy. Rudy made an honest statement when he admitted the mistake on his part and emphasized on the importance of sex education.
Rudy Galindo continued his good form on the Ice Olympic Tour. However, due to a recurring hip problem he was forced to sit out on a series of events. Rudy overcame this problem as well and announced his comeback at the end of 2001.
Rudy Galindos hobbies and interests included listening to music, designing costumes, shopping and weightlifting. Rudys life is an inspiration to all. His never say die attitude and the urge to survive under all conditions makes him a true champion.
