The Gibraltar Bridge is a proposal to span the Strait of Gibraltar. Since 1980 the idea of constructing the bridge across the trait of Gibraltar came into existence. After considering various alignments the engineers have progressed in the designing of the bridge.
They have also withered certain structural arrangement. To build the bridge, ten billion US$ is required. The governments of Morocco, France and Spain have agreed to bear the cost of construction. Gibraltar Bridge would be the largest bridge in the world. Eugene Tsui, the United States architect, has designed it. This bridge is connecting the continents of Europe and Africa.
The design of Gibraltar Bridge differs with all other existing bridge. It can float as well as be submerged and has been constructed over the three-mile wide floating island, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The island has given the opportunity to people to outlook both the European and African continents, which has never ever happened in the human history. The Gibraltar Bridge starts from the coastlines, and then inclines under the Mediterranean for two miles. Again the bridge slants down underwater, and then slopes up. Eventually it ends onto the neighboring continent.
Gibraltar Bridge would dwarf Three Gorges Dam in China and Ground Zero in the New York City. It has been predicted that the bridge would become the greatest tourist destination on Earth. The construction of this bridge would be regarded as the biggest architectural and most ecological project in the world.
There are one hundred and fifty windmills and eighty underwater tidal turbines which generates twelve billion kilowatt of electricity for the mammoth construction. If required then more tribune and windmill can be included in Gibraltar Bridge.
Enough electricity can be generated on Gibraltar Bridge. It would help to power the southern Spanish province of Cadiz and the nation of Morocco. Instead of disturbing the existing ecology and marine life of the site, the bridge uses the natural current flow of the Strait and its constant wind.
Gibraltar Bridge would potentially increase the annual tourist rate of Spain and morocco. Hence, the bridge would improve the economic condition of US. The bridge can be regarded as the eighth wonder of the world.
