Hate Crime Violence Assault Murder Hatred Minority Targeted

A crime that is committed with the sole objective of attacking an individual belonging to a particular community is defined as hate crime. Generally it is the most heinous form of crime that is committed with the sole purpose of destroying someone, who the criminal believes to be standing in opposition to his own community. As a result they attack people from other cultures, other religion and also other ethnic origins and even other sex. The only thing common between all the different communities that falls prey to such a crime is the notion of being the other to the man who is killing.

The history of hate crimes can be traced back to the Roman age. In modern history the most burning example can be stated as the Nazi holocaust that vanquished millions of Jews during the Second World War out of sheer hatred. Even the genocide of Armenians that was brutally coordinated by the Ottomans and the violence against the Bosnians as well as the genocide in Rwanda are all evidences to the inhuman legacy of hate crimes conducted through the ages.

In case of America in the recent past, several hate crimes have been observed in numerous incidents. In separate incidents people from a varied background or different social orientation were killed. During recent years several governments have addressed the notion of hate crime and several policies have been adopted to stop all ethnic violence. But murder alone cannot be considered as hate crime.

It can always induce its ugly head to damage the fraternity within communities in several other forms. People physically assault people of other communities, insult or abuse them, destroy their assets and buildings, and even send hate mails or write graffiti on their walls. All of these can be termed as hate crime. They have been going on since centuries and even today they are very common.

In several countries legal department actively tries to curb down such criminal activities by enforcing stringent laws. They identify all crimes based on community bias as hate crimes. They have initiated laws that condemn all sorts of genocide and war crimes as hate crime. At least 40% of the hate crimes committed in US are hate crime and majority of them are fatal incidents. So the US government has advocated many strong measures to stop this hate crime.

US, however is not an exception and almost in every country there are stringent laws as well as regulations to stop hate crime. Each country has their own set of law against the crimes that are committed on the basis of communal hatred. In Belgium the government has imposed strict penal laws against all crimes done with the motive of violence against the other sex, color, civil groups or religion and ethnicity. Hate crime
