Furniture Companies Such As Gettysburg Manufacturing In Pennsylvania


The Gettysburg furniture companies were the biggest industrialized affair and most important company in Adams County, Pennsylvania since the early 1900's to the 1950's. The foundation was laid in the year 1901 in Orrtanna. Levi Starner and his son Emory used to run a little furnishing plant identified as the Orrtanna Manufacturing Company. In the year 1902, they united with four men in Gettysburg and together they bought land and constructed an industrial unit, licensed as the Gettysburg Manufacturing Company.

In July 1902 the corporation started working and moved on with their procedure of manufacturing. Gettysburg Furniture companies produced eight or more design, each of the design pooled buffets, washstands, sideboards and hall racks chiefly in oak. After the initiation of the construction process everything went on smoothly for few months. In the due course of those days Levi Starner was killed in a manufacturing mishap.

In the plunge of 1904 the four men popularly known as Gettysburg entrepreneurs turned over their resources to the delegates. In December 1904, when the material goods were sold, all the four commercial partners united in the 1902 furniture companies, bought the factory and materials. In the meantime two of these men resided on lodge and found Michael Engle of York, Pennsylvania to run the factory. In April in the year 1905, the Engle Furniture Company was licensed at a distinct plant site.

In May 1907, Engle transported his collection in the Gettysburg Manufacturing Company to Claton S. Reaser, also from York County. The furniture companies now created all the furniture mechanism for contemporary livelihood. In May 1917 the joint business enterprise Stouck-Reaser Company organized papers for integration to acquire, vend and carry out transaction in extensive lumber goods. In April 1918, another industrial mishap took the life of Clayton S. Reaser. His post as a general manager was taken up by M.C. Jones, a former administrator and representative of the Hanover Cabinet Company.

In the year 1920 the Gettysburg Panel Company was made to offer sufficient stock of veneer panels for the other company. The 1923 witnessed the manufacturing of total of nearly 71,000 samples of furniture. In 1927 there were 522 workers working in the three plants, 261 in Gettysburg; 153 in Reaser and the rest 108 in Panel. The Gettysburg Furniture Companies was shut down in 1960 and turned into a storehouse and delivery point for other furniture plant outside Pennsylvania. Furniture companies
