Burton Silver Cartoonist Parodist Inventor Bogor Creator Art Critic

Living in Wellington, New Zealand, Burton Silver is cartoonist, art critic, inventor and parodist. The most of his creations is Bogor. This cartoon series was created for the New Zealand Listener.

The protagonist of the Burton Silvers famous series Bogor was a lone woodsman. It revolved around this woodsman the animals of the forest who were his companions, notably a hedgehog. To the credit of this series, it is the longest running New Zealand series, published initially in 1973. Inspired by the time he spent in the Australian outback, he had previously, under the pen name Roux, written a cartoon series called the OB. A bird, a snake and a rock were the protagonists of the OB series.

Crafted in partnership with Heather Busch, a painter and photographer, the funny and amusing cat art books add to the fame of Burton Silver. Why Cats paint, Why Paint Cats and the famous Dancing with Cats are the books named to his credit.

Burton Silver was an inventor in his right. With courses in Germany, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Ireland and Argentina, his invented sport Golfcross has gained much popularity. In this game, played on a golf course, has aerial nets goal-nets and a rugby shaped golf ball. He has created The Fringe Games, an international festival of sports that are new and experimental, intended to run in concurrence with the Olympic Games.

Spoofs also earned Burton Silver fame. These include Kokigami: The Intimate Art of the Little Paper Costume - Japanese paper decoration for the genitals, created once again with Heather Busch. Another to his credit was the The Naughty Victorian Hand Book: The Rediscovered Art of Erotic Hand Manipulation. The name of this spoof leaves no need for explanation of its content or topic, rather self-explanatory. For this project he had the aid of Jeremy Bennett, illustrator.

Burton Silver along with Peter Hansard wrote a book called What Bird Did That? A Driver's Guide to Some Common Birds of North America. Margaret Woodhouse illustrated his book The Kama Sutra for Cats. His wife co-authored with him a book called Versability. This is a game book, rather similar to Dictionary actually. In this game, rather than guessing new meanings for words, the players would have to coin out new lines for poems. With over a million books in print, his greatest success has been Why Cast Paint, selling over 700,000 copies worldwide.

Everything He Hasn't Told You Yet: A New Way to Get Men talking About Stuff That Matters, a book on relationships, in partnership with Martin OConnor, is Burton Silvers latest project. Putting a man in a hypothetical position will help him open up, hence sharing his true thoughts and feelings – Scenario Method. This is the principle upon which the book has its base.
