Church Bell Used For Worship Of Osiris Jesus On Religious Ceremonies

Church bell is hung in the church to announce the hour for the worshippers to go to the church or to attend any service like wedding, funeral or any other service conducted by the church. The bells were also used in the earlier days to alert the people on important events as well as to gather them for any important news.

Church bell is not a new invention of the Christians and can be traced to earlier times when it was used for both religious and secular purposes. In ancient Egypt the bell was said to have been used for the worship of Osiris. They were more of a gong than a bell. Moses is said to have introduced the bell to the ceremonial Jewish functions. The Romans used the bells, not for any religious or secular functions, but to add the ringing noise to the processions of victory or joyride.

The use of church bell originated in around the year 400 AD and the introduction is attributed to Paulinus, the bishop of Nola in Campania, Italy. It was soon popular and the use spread rapidly not for only religious purposes like calling the faithful to prayer but for alerting the population in case of any oncoming danger. In 604, Pope Sabinian sanctioned the use of the bells and a little later the ceremony of blessing the bell was introduced. It was not until eleventh century that the large church bells were introduced. Such early bells were found in France, Scotland and Ireland. The largest bells were found mostly in the Russian cathedrals.

Many church bells in the European churches are arranged in eights, twelve or fourteens to form a chiming effect and are often tuned in musical notes. In England it is a custom to ring the bells in a harmonious peal when all the bells are rung at the same time producing a sound, which is loud and harmonious and often sounds beautiful from a distance. Many bells were engraved with inscriptions stating the uses for which they were installed like Ave Maria and invocations to St. Gabriel.

The church bell has some typical Christian customs attached to it like Passing the Bell and Angelus. In Passing the Bell the bell in the parish church is rung very slowly to announce an imminent death and asks for the Christians to pray the sole to be departed. The Angelus is marking the time for the Christians to pray at morning, noon and evening. It is wholly a Catholic practice and marks the Incarnation of the Blessed Lord.

Hand held church bell is rung in Roman Catholic, High Lutheran and Anglican churches just after the consecration ceremony. Nowadays, many church bells are being electronically timed for chiming but the ringing for the services are still done by people in United Kingdom. The Russian Orthodox Church has a complex code of ringing the church bell for different occasions. Church bell
