Kit Carson Participant Of Revolutionary War Fighting


Christopher Houston Kit Carson was born on December 24, 1809 in Madison County, Kentucky that was located very close to the city of Richmond, Carson and lived till May 23, 1868. He was a frontiersman and was brought up in Franklin, Missouri the place where his family switched to prior to his fourth birthday.

Kit Carson was the son of Lindsey Carson, a farmer who has descended from Scots –Irish and also did active part in the Revolutionary War fighting under the assistance of General Wade Hampton. There existed fifteen Carson kids out of which five were produced by the first wife of Lindsey Carson and the other ten by the mother of Kit namely Rebecca Robinson. He was the eleventh kid and had a family that has made their settlement on the part of the land that had its owners as the sons of Daniel Boone and had actually bought the property from the Spanish before the Louisiana Purchase took place.

They had developed quite good relationship with the Boone and worked together, did socialised as well as carried out intermarriages. Kit Carson lost his father at the age of eight due to tree falling down on his father during the process of land clearing. As a result of the death of his father he along with his family had to face huge financial problems and this also made him quit his school and resort to carrying out a job at the farm belonging to his family and also further went ahead with the hunting work.

Kit Carson did the apprenticeship in the Franklin's settlement in Missouri and learned how to be a saddlemaker at the early age of 14. Franklin was located on the eastern part of the Santa Fe Trail that was inaugrated only two years before. He entered into a secret contract with the huge merchant caravan that was going towards Santa Fe at the age of sixteen and worked as the tender of animals like mules, oxen as well as horses.

Kit Carson stayed along with Matthew Kinkead, who was a trapper as well as an explorer in Taos, New Mexico at the time of the winter season in the year 1826-1827. He did got the knowledge of various languages and was an expert in Spanish, Shoshone, Ute, Arapaho, Paiute, and Navajo. The places that were named in the honor of Carson were Carson National Forest, Carson Trail, Kit Carson, Colorado to name a few of them.Kit Carson
