Venus by German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder is one of his most popular paintings. He was not only a painter but a printmaker who specialised in woodcutting and engraving. Though most of the themes of his paintings were religious, at times he turned to comical themes as well.

Venus by German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder is considered to be the best example of his comical paintings. The painter was born on October 4, 1472 at Kronach in upper Franconia. He inherited his father's passion for art.

Venus by German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder was a much later work og genius. His first picture dates back to 1504. He was mostly into painting houses, painting portraits and artifacts for altar. He also engraved on copper plates and carved designs on wood pieces.

However in his early days as a painter, Lucas exertised in painting wildlife, especially deer and wild boar. His painted animals looked so real that Duke John allowed him to accompany him in the hunting expeditions. There the painter had to capture the duke in his canvas, chasing deer or stabbing a boar.

Till 1508 he used to put his initials in his works, be it painting or engraving.But on 1509, Emperor Maximilian of Netherlands honoured him with a logo of a winged snake. From then onwards all the works, including Venus by the German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder, carried that motto instead of his initials.

The oldest painting is not Venus by German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder but the rest of the Virgin during the Flight into Egypt in 1504. And this pencil stetch till date is considered as one of the finest creations of the artist. One of his prime characteristics was that he was more inclined to the the mystery of balck and white combination. In the process he was not very keen on using effective color and alternate brush strokes of light and shade.The Venus by German artist Lucas Cranach the Elder was not only remembered for his creations with brush and colors. An expert at wood carving, his first woodcut in 1505 took shape of the Virgin with three saints praying in front of the Holy Cross.
